Diet Patches – Weight Loss Band-Aids?

Is this the answer to weight loss? Stick on a patch and ‘hey-presto’ you’re thin! All your past excesses disappear in a trice – just by putting on a patch. Wow! The days of miracles are still with us.

If diet patches are the answer to weight loss, the inventor should be waiting by the telephone. The call to say that the Nobel prize for science is theirs shouldn’t be far away. Diet patches are definitely not the answer to weight loss, but do they do any good at all?

Diet patches usually contain four main ingredients. Guarana which is a caffeine based stimulant and a diuretic. Chromium which can help to regulate insulin function and blood sugar levels. Hydroxycitric acid which is meant to prevent the conversion of carbs to fat and something called Bladderwrack which is meant to have fat burning qualities.

All good stuff, but do they work? The simple answer is ‘no’ they do not. There have been many unsubstantiated claims about diet patches and they have gotten the manufacturers into more than a bit of hot water. The truth is that diet patches have no real short-term or lasting weight loss benefit. Used in conjunction with a serious change in eating and lifestyle habits, there could be some minor benefit, but you’d be hard pressed to identify it. A Band-Aid might be a very good description for a diet patch, but on the other hand it might be being a bit unfair to a Band-Aid!

The bottom line is that there is no substitute for changing your habits by learning new eating and lifestyle habits if you want to lose weight. There is no silver bullet when it comes to losing weight. There is no easy answer, but there are some things that you can do that will influence your weight and help your prospects of leading a slimmer, healthier life.

Have you considered a vegetarian diet? It’s not as daft as it may sound. By changing what you eat in a fairly drastic way, by cutting out the things like meat and ready meals that contain meat, you will reduce many of the things that have helped to make you overweight. It’s worth a try.
